SERVICES
01
WHEELCHAIR AND WALKER ASSESSMENTS
Moving around as independently as possible is the most important consideration when participating in daily occupations. Occupational therapists can assess for the most appropriate mobility device, such as a walker, wheelchair, or powered device. The Assistive Devices Program is a funding source that is offered through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Through this program, Ontario residents with a valid OHIP card may be eligible for funding for a significant proportion of the cost their mobility device. As an ADP authorizer, I am able to complete this assessment and application for funding on behalf of the resident, and liaise with their vendor of choice.

WORK-RELATED ASSESSMENTS
03
Many adults spend a considerable amount of time completing work-related tasks. Adults may find that they are not able to complete work-related tasks to their satisfaction. Performance in these tasks can be affected by physical, cognitive, emotional or environmental factors. Occupational therapy services may include a one-time assessment with recommendations, or ongoing job coaching to tackle more complex concerns, such as an injury or concussion. Whether looking to improve your positioning to relieve or prevent injury, an ergonomic assessment can explore factors that contribute to repetitive stress injuries. A free initial 15-minute telephone interview can help determine the best assessment or course of action to tackle work-related concerns.

02
HOME SAFETY ASSESSMENTS
Many factors may trigger a home safety assessment. Individuals may have experienced an injury or new diagnosis that has contributed to a change in function. Older adults have unique needs that often change over time. Transitioning to a new environment can be very stressful and disorienting, and there may be a circumstance that has triggered the move. An occupational therapy assessment can examine the wholistic needs of the client in order to make recommendations that address safety, independence and quality of life. Recommendations may include assistive devices such as bedroom and bathroom equipment that can enable the greatest independence for the resident and minimize the assistance required by other caregivers.

ABOUT

About Me
I attended the University of Calgary where I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology, then went on to Boston University for my Master’s in Occupational Therapy. I have been a licensed OT practicing in good standing for over 20 years. During that time, I have worked with a variety of clients, in both the United States and Canada, in different care settings and with a multitude of diagnoses. I have also led multidisciplinary teams in home health, inpatient, outpatient, and hospice settings, as Regional Director. I have been working with adults in the community in the Ottawa area for over 10 years. I am also an ADP authorizer with the province of Ontario, prescribing walkers, wheelchairs and powered devices. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, running, golf and yoga and can almost always be found listening to music.
What is Occupational Therapy?
Life is made up of meaningful everyday activities, or occupations, such as moving around and completing self-care tasks. When we can't participate in daily occupations due to injury, illness, disability, or environmental circumstances, occupational therapists help find solutions to address the meaningful activities of daily life. Occupational therapists work with clients, families, and other professionals to assess and help clients develop the skills needed to engage in healthy and meaningful lives.
Occupational Therapy is a regulated allied health service in a variety of settings for a multitude of beneficiaries. For more information, please visit the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
